Sadly, on May 3 a popular DC musician and his girlfriend were killed in a Charles County motorcycle accident.
According to NBC Washington, Derek Anthony Colquitt, 47, a member of the longtime DC go-go group The Junkyard Band, was killed in the crash along with his girlfriend. According to Maryland State Police reports, the couple was riding on a Harley-Davidson motorcycle when they struck a pickup truck on Route 301.
A preliminary investigation revealed that Colquitt failed to slow down when he approached a red light and struck the back of a truck. The accident allegedly ignited a fire. Colquitt’s passenger on the motorcycle was thrown from the bike and transported to Prince George’s County Hospital, where she later died. Colquitt died at the scene of the crash.
