According to officials, last month a construction worker building a Bethesda home died in an accident involving a mini excavator.

The accident happened just after 8:30 a.m. while a group of construction workers were building a large home. Officials say that the victim, a 41-year-old man who worked for Castlewood Builders, was operating the excavator when it unexpectedly tipped over. At that point, the worker became pinned between the machine and the side of the house.

Two of the victim’s coworkers suffered minor injuries after they punched out the glass window of the excavator in an attempt to save the man. The 41-year-old was taken to a local hospital where he died from the injuries he sustained.

Construction Workers Face a Dangerous Working Environment

This fatal accident proves how hazardous construction work sites can be. Between using dangerous commercial equipment and the potential hazards of falling in a scaffold or ladder accident, construction workers must be safe at all times.

Construction accidents may occur because of defects in commercial vehicles or equipment used by construction workers in the course of their jobs. If a construction worker sustains an injury from a defect in a vehicle or equipment, the injured party may have a valid legal claim for damages against the manufacturer, the distributor, the employer or persons involved in the operation of the vehicle or equipment. Product defect laws are tricky and vary from state-to-state, and an experienced attorney can review your circumstances and find out if you have any claim against an equipment manufacturer.
