More Pourable Gel Fuels Recalled

Earlier this summer, we told you about Napa Home and Garden’s firepots and gel fuels exploding and severely injuring consumers across the country. The dangerous product is responsible for two deaths, in addition to 37 reports of burn injuries. Earlier this month, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued a recall of similar fuel gels by nine different manufacturers.

The CPSC announced a voluntary recall of fuel gels made by Bird Brain, Bond Manufacturing, Sunjel Company, Fuel Barons, Lamplight Farms, Luminosities, Pacific Décor, Real Flame, and Smart Solar. Approximately 2 million units of the fuel gel in one-quart plastic bottles and one-gallon plastic jugs are now off store shelves. Companies priced the gel anywhere from $5.00 to $20.00 per bottle.

The gel is prone to exploding unexpectedly and spraying onto its victims. Once on the victim’s skin, the gel continues to burn and is difficult to extinguish. Victims suffered second and third-degree burns to their face, chest, hands, arms, and legs.

Some companies think a specially designed cap for the gels will prevent further explosions and fires. For now, the CPSC is advising consumers to stop using the product immediately. Call today to learn more.
