The first week of August proved to be a deadly week on Washington, D.C. roads. A series of auto crashes killed five people within a 24-hour span, according to washingtonexaminer.com. A motorcyclist collided with a tractor-trailer around 5 a.m. on Florida Avenue and Eckington Place. The 18-year-old motorcyclist died in the crash.
At about 6:30 a.m., two vehicles collided on the Beltway in Prince George’s County setting off a deadly chain reaction. A Ford hit a Honda Civic, which then hit a Toyota Camry. The Civic then went airborne and landed on top of a BMW, hit the roof of a Toyota, and came to a rest. The 31-year-old Civic driver and the 41-year-old BMW driver both died in the collision. Police arrested the Ford driver for driving under the influence.
That afternoon, a man from Glen Burnie died in a car accident in Anne Arundel County. Later in the day around 5 p.m., a 55-year-old motorcyclist died when his motorcycle hit a pickup in Loudon County.
