According to CBS DC, an out-of-control, reckless driver crashed into three police cruisers, seriously injuring a 26-year-old police officer during a traffic stop in Prince George’s County. Authorities reported that the five-vehicle collision took place on Pennsylvania Avenue near Walters Lane in Forestville, Maryland.

Three police officers were outside their cruisers around 9 a.m. on May 22 during a routine traffic stop on the side of northbound Pennsylvania Avenue when a minivan came barreling at them. The officers attempted to jump out of the way, but one officer was hit and became lodged underneath the minivan.

“This minivan is coming at them and they had nowhere to hide,” stated police spokesperson Julie Parker. “It’s just fortunate that two of them went one way, and the officer who was hit went the other way.”

Officers and first responders with the Prince George’s County Fire/EMS Department lifted the minivan off the 26-year-old injured officer.

The seriously-injured officer and the driver of the minivan were taken to Prince George’s Hospital Center for their injuries.

Police do not know what caused the driver to crash into the three cruisers and a pulled-over sedan. No charges have been filed yet in the accident.
