A head-on auto accident killed two men earlier this month on St. Michaels Road east of Travelers Rest Road. An 82-year-old man died at the scene, and the second driver later died from her injuries at the hospital.

According to the accident report, at approximately 2:18 p.m. the man’s 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe was traveling west on St. Michaels Road when it crossed the centerline. The Tahoe struck a 2005 Nissan Murano traveling in the opposite direction. Rescue workers treated the woman at the scene and a MSP Trooper 6 helicopter flew her to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore. According to police, she died in the hospital around 10 p.m. that night.

Maryland State Police as well as volunteer firefighters from Easton and St. Michaels responded to the accident. The accident caused extensive backups on the road in both directions. Investigators are still trying to determine what caused the accident. The state medical examiner will perform an autopsy on the 82-year-old victim’s body.
