An elderly man lost his life in a house fire last month in Westminster. According to the report at westminster.patch.com, the fire also caused approximately $1.5 million in property damage at the house on Old Washington Road.
According to the report, the victim’s family heard the smoke alarm at around 1:05 a.m. They awoke and saw smoke coming from the 80-year-old victim’s bedroom and called 911. The family, which included two parents and their three children, escaped the house safely. Unfortunately, they could not access the elderly man’s bedroom to get him out of the house.
Investigators still do not know how the blaze started. The majority of the damage is concentrated in the area surrounding the victim’s bedroom, said, investigators. It took about 60 firefighters approximately 90 minutes to bring the fire under control. There were no other reported injuries in the fire.
