Tractor Trailer and Dump Truck Collide on MD Highway

Earlier this month, wusa9.com reported a collision between a tractor-trailer and a dump truck on the Capital Beltway (I-495) in Maryland. The truck collision shut down the Beltway for most of the day as crews cleared the wreckage and investigators gathered evidence.

According to police, around 7:15 a.m. the tractor-trailer struck the Forestville Road overpass before colliding with the dump truck. Aerial footage of the truck accident scene showed the tractor-trailer stopped in the grass median of the highway facing the opposite direction of traffic. A tow truck slowly pulled the dump truck off the shoulder of the highway.

All lanes of the Beltway backed-up for miles. Officials from the Maryland State Highway Administration shut down two lanes of I-495 to investigate the structural soundness of the Forestville Road overpass. Officials continue to investigate the accident. The accident marks the second tractor-trailer crash on the Beltway this year.

In February, a tractor-trailer hit a bridge embankment on D’Arcy Road in Prince George’s County. The tractor-trailer burst into flames and trapped the driver inside the cab. The driver died and another man suffered injuries in the tragic crash. Contact our office today for more information.
